At the Oneonta Family YMCA, we embrace a holistic view of aging. We incorporate both the physical and social aspect of health and well-being. We provide opportunities for our aging community to socialize and engage in meaningful relationships. Thus supporting physical, intellectual and spiritual strength.  

We NOW OFFER the Arthritis Foundation Walk with Ease Program and participate with Silver Sneakers as well as Silver and Fit. We also offer many Senior Friendly (SF) Wellness classes. You can choose from a variety of group fitness classes to accommodate your schedule and fitness level. Our energetic and inspiring instructors are ready to motivate you to be your best. How Frequently Should I Exercise?

ACSM lists the following recommendations for exercising:  

Cardiorespiratory: 30-60 minutes of moderate intensity 5x’s weekly or 20-60 minutes at vigorous intensity 3x’s weekly.

Resistance: 3x’s weekly with 48 hours between sessions.

Flexibility: 2-3 days a week minimum but can be done daily.

Registration & Flex Passes

Registration opens the last week of each month for the following month for only certain classes. By registering for a class you are reserving your spot in the class for the month and is good for that month only.  Some classes have limits on participant number or limited equipment.  These classes are often very popular and fill up quickly.  So if you love that class you may want to register by clicking the blue link!

Guest Flex Passes allows non-members or visiting members of other Y's to drop into a class to try it out.  You may purchase one pass at a time to use in any class or multiple passes. Click the flex pass image above to purchase on-line today! You will be provided with a key tag at the Front Desk to swipe each time you come to class. Your class will be deducted from the number of passes you have purchased.
