Jean Hobkirk’s Y story began many years ago

Watch her Story Here!

Jean Hobkirk’s Y story began many years ago.

Growing up in Oneonta, Jean has fond memories of attending dances and youth events at the Oneonta Family YMCA when it was located on Broad Street. The Y was part of her childhood. Years later, it would become an important part of her life once again.

When doctors recommended that Jean get into the pool to help with the compression in her back, she turned to the Y. Through Y Specialty Fitness and water aerobics, Jean found more than a way to move her body, she found something that has tremendously improved her quality of life.

And she found her people.

Today, Jean has built a team of friends and caring Y staff who support her, encourage her, and make coming to the Y something she looks forward to. We love having Jean as part of our Y family, and we know she feels the same way about us.

That’s one of the amazing things about a YMCA: you can truly grow up here.

Your Y story might begin with swim lessons at six months old. It might include family fun days, Halloween parties, summer memories, friendships, fitness classes, or cheering on your kids in youth sports. You might discover the Y as a teenager, a college student, a young adult, a parent, or one of our most seasoned adults.

Wherever you are in life, there is a place for you at the Y.

Jean’s story reminds us that the YMCA isn’t just a building or a collection of programs. It’s a place where chapters of our lives connect, and where friendships, health, belonging, and memories can last a lifetime.

We’re grateful that Jean continues to create her Y story with us.
