Bruce Downie: I injured my right shoulder last summer and when I was doing PT for it last Fall, the PT vendor had one of the SciFit machines that they always had me use for a few minutes each session. When I went to Venice Florida, the “Y” there had two of them and I used one of them twice per week while I was there in January and February. It made a noticeable difference in lessening my shoulder pain and increased the strength in both shoulders. I think it does for the shoulders what an exercise bike does for the hips.
I liked it so much that I considered buying one for my own use, but they were pretty expensive. That was when I asked Frank if he was interested in me donating one to the Y. It was really nice of him to look into it. I knew it was a quality piece of equipment and he came to the same conclusion. He said he would need to get approval from his BOD which he did. With the Y’s purchasing power, he was able to purchase it for a lot less than it would have cost me, which was nice plus I will be able to use it whenever I come to the Y and other folks will be able to benefit from it too, a win,win, win. That does not happen too often. I’m so happy it all worked out well. BTW, my shoulder is feeling better already.
