Dear Members, Guests, and Supporters of the Oneonta Family YMCA,

In accordance with guidelines and recommendations from the Otsego County Department of Health, the declaration of Otsego County being in a State of Emergency, and in light of the growing concerns regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we have decided to close our facility, effective Monday, March 16, 2020 for two weeks. During this time, we will continually reevaluate and keep you updated.

This decision was a difficult one to make, but was made with the consideration of the heath and safety of our staff, families and community.

During our closure, our staff will be taking the necessary precautions to clean and sanitize the facility in order be ready to reopen when we receive updated guidelines from Otsego County and NYS. Immediate inquiries should be directed to our email at , as our facility will be closed.

We ask for your understanding, cooperation, and assistance in supporting our decision. The Oneonta Family YMCA has changed lives for the better since 1883. We expect to do so, regardless of the challenges. It is our intention to extend all memberships the length of our closure, and program sessions will be adjusted to begin upon reopening.

At the Oneonta Family YMCA, we take your health and safety very seriously. Please read this important update about the Coronavirus-COVID-19, how to protect yourself, and how we are taking precautions.

When a serious health issue arises, our staff team comes together to reassess our strategies to keep our members and staff healthy.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), basic hygiene is the best thing to do.

The following are precautions that everyone should be implementing:

  • Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and a dry with a clean towel. If soap and water are unavailable, clean your hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home if you are not feeling well and are exhibiting fever, cough, and shortness of breath
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue and dispose of it right away.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow and not your hands in order to protect others.
  • Regularly and thoroughly clean surfaces such as counter tops and door knobs with disinfectant.

At our YMCA, there are precautions and actions that we are initiating:

  • All staff will be cleaning their work stations and assisting in keeping all public areas of the Y disinfected
  • YMCA staff that are feeling ill are being asked to stay home
  • We are asking members who may be ill to stay home
  • We ask that any member or staff that contracts the Coronavirus, please contact us immediately
  • We are asking all members to clean machines BEFORE and AFTER workouts, with the antibacterial wipes that are available.
  • Additional antibacterial wipe stations have been added throughout the building

It is our intention to have limited interruptions to service at this time. We will continue to monitor this situation daily and respond with the necessary strategies as recommended by the CDC, NYS Department of Health, Otsego County Department of Health, etc.
