Reflecting On The Old & Looking Forward To The New

As the end of the year comes to a close, it’s amazing to see the impact our YMCA has had on the community this year. We started off the year with another lineup of spectacular swimming and gymnastics lessons along with stellar performances on both our gym and swim teams. Our Y boasted 2 State champions in swimming and continued the tradition of offering youth leagues for our pre-school and school age kids. Adult fall and winter volleyball leagues were run by the Y, and we have just recently revamped our entire fitness offering of motivating classes sure to keep our members fit in 2016. A wide array of special events were offered such as Kids Night Out, Father Daughter Dance, Taste of Life, Clubs and Clams Golf Outing and of course, our two 5k memorable races, the Outlaw 5k and Frostbite runs.
2015 was a banner year for our summer programs as we once again collaborated with the City of Oneonta and proved that by partnering together, quality programs can continue to evolve and create lasting relationships in the community. Over 700 children were served this summer and with operating the newly renovated bath house and Wilber pool, we had over 8700 patrons attend the pool. Our Safety Around Water week enabled 189 children to participate in FREE water safety lessons. The Y is also there for our pre-school children at Center Street and we are now in the afterschool programs in Delhi, Cooperstown and Walton. The Oneonta Teen Center continues the tradition of offering an outlet for our teens so that they can thrive in a wholesome fun environment, while making new friends at the same time. It is no wonder that at the Oneonta Family YMCA, we are always there for our community. Happy New Year from all the staff at the Oneonta Family YMCA!
