Your Y Won An Award!

Our Oneonta YMCA received the Quality Of Life Award from the Otsego Chamber this past Thursday. Frank Russo Executive Director supported by Board Members, Past Director Miller, and Operations Manager Kristy Lawson, addressed over 300 people in attendance, that the Y was not just a big red brick building, that it was a place where we help build people. During this speech it was also made clear that the Y is not just an organization, but it is where we organize as a community.
The Y has been serving the Otsego & Delaware communities since the 1800’s, and used to be located on Broad Street during the years 1900 -1965. In 2015 the Oneonta Y celebrated 50 years of service in its current Ford Ave Location. Frank Russo spoke to the crowd about all the wonderful and engaging programs that the Y runs, and its strong collaborations with the City of Oneonta, the Oneonta School District, and the Cooperstown , Delhi & Walton After School programs. He emphasized that the word community is not complete without a Y on the end of it, and how the Y needs the community to support its mission.
Frank ended his speech by expressing that the Y is ready to partner together with the community, and made it clear that the Y will continue it's commitment to Build Strong Kids, Strong Families and a Strong Community. In addition, the night wrapped up with the Y getting a NYS Assembly Certificate of Merit from Assemblyman Crouch, a NYS Assembly Citation from Assemblyman Lopez, and a NYS Legislative Resolution from Senator Seward and Assemblyman Magee.
